It’s an exciting new time for WE ARE ZAMA ZAMA. After the film’s gradual entry into the world at film festivals during the pandemic, a new wave of special screenings and audience talk-backs with the director has begun.
In June, the film was screened at the Scala arthouse cinema in Lüneburg, Germany, as part of the opening festivities for the new Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture and Society (LIAS) at Leuphana University.
Upcoming screenings will be held in Geneva, in conjunction with the Albert Hirschman Centre on Democracy and the Graduate Institute (November 13) and in Venice, at the Giorgione Cinema, co-hosted by Universita Ca’ Foscari New Institute for Environmental Humanities (NICHE) and McGill University’s Critical Media Lab (November 23).
On February 1st, 2024, WE ARE ZAMA ZAMA will show at the MARKK (Hamburg’s Museum am Rothenbaum for Kulturne und Künste der Welt/Museum for World Culture and Art).
We’re also thrilled to announce that the film is now available for streaming on Vimeo. You can access the full director’s cut at the link here, or via the button on the homepage of this website. At 74 minutes, this is the full and original version of the film with English subtitles, and is not the dipped and dubbed 52 minute edit currently hosted on BBC Africa.
